FAQ
Common questions
What we don't do comes first.
Do you certify our product?
No. We issue no certificates or marks, and nothing we write says a product may be sold. You get a Gap Report, which describes your file and what it lacks, and, if the review ends without a blocking finding, a one-page Review Summary that describes the review. Neither is a certificate. If someone has asked you for a certificate, we cannot give them one.
Is this legal advice?
No. We provide no legal services, give no legal opinions and don't tell you what to do. We describe what the published rules say and what is in your file. Whether your product may lawfully be placed on the market is a legal question that only your own examination or a qualified lawyer can answer.
Are you our EU representative or our responsible person?
No. Both are roles that must be established in the EU, and we hold neither. If a marketplace or an authority has asked you to name one, that is a separate appointment with another provider. If your file suggests you need one, the Gap Report says so.
Do you test products?
No. We never see the product, only its documents. If your file lacks a test that a rule expects, the Gap Report says so, and Lab Link can book a laboratory to run it. The laboratory does the test and stands behind its own report.
Can we give your report to a marketplace, a buyer or an authority?
Yes, you can show it to anyone. It is written for you, on the file you gave us and under your agreement with us. Nobody else gains a right to rely on it or a claim against us by reading it, and we do not issue reliance letters.
If our product gets stopped anyway, is that on you?
A Gap Report describes your documents as they were when you gave them to us. It cannot predict what a marketplace, buyer, customs office or authority will decide, because those decisions can turn on things outside the file. You remain the responsible economic operator. The limits of our responsibility are set out in the agreement before you decide.
Do you check that our documents are real?
Not by default. In a standard review we assume a test report comes from the laboratory named on it, and the report states that assumption. If you did not commission a test yourself, the Authenticity Check asks the issuing laboratory whether the report is theirs, as a separate paid service.
What changes on 9 December 2026?
The EU's new Product Liability Directive applies to products placed on the market after 9 December 2026. It widens who can be held liable for a defect, and there is no lower limit and no cap on the amount. A court can order the product documents handed over, and if they are not produced, the product is presumed defective. Which of this applies to a particular product and company is a question for that company's own lawyer. We read the documents such a claim would turn on and list what is missing.
What does it cost, and when do we find out?
Before you decide. The free Listing Scan comes back with a written price for the next step, and that price does not change once we start. A Snapshot costs EUR 490, and a Full Check is priced by product category.
How long does it take?
We aim to answer the Listing Scan within 24 hours. A Snapshot takes 3 business days, a Full Check 5–8 business days and a Refresh 2 business days, counted from the day we have all your documents. If one is missing, we ask for it once, at the start.
What do you need from us?
The documents you already hold for one product, and where you sell it. You don't need to sort them or know what is missing. If you have almost nothing, we start there, and the Gap Report lists what to put together instead of what to correct.
Is what we send you confidential?
Yes, under the agreement you sign before you send any document. That is why this site has no upload button, and why the scan asks only questions and, if you like, for a public listing link.
